This large theropod was the first carnivore discovered in the Antarctic. Due to its comb-shaped crest resembling a pompadour, it was unofficially known as the “Elvisaurus” in the 1950’s. The temperature was considerably higher during the Jurassic period, so the coast of the Antarctic likely never dropped below freezing and thus able to support lifeforms like the Cryolophosaurus.
